PURPOSE: A method for driving an alternation type plasma display panel is provided to adjust the first sustain pulse for each sub field in an address display period separated to prevent malfunction during the sustaining period. CONSTITUTION: The method including X sustain electrodes and Y sustain electrodes. Address period allocates at least one cell to be indicated with response to an input signal out of a plurality of sub fields. The sustain-discharge period applies the sustain pulses so as to turn on and sustain the cells indicated during the address period. During at least one sustain-discharge period of the sub fields, the pulse width of the first sustain pulse and the pulse width of the second sustain pulse are determined differently. The pulse width of the first sustain pulse is determined to be wider than that of the latter sustain pulses.
