A method of welding thermoplastic materials comprises injecting molten thermoplastic material through a die fed by an extruder into a gap between surfaces of thermoplastic material to be joined together such that the molten material melts said surfaces, and thereafter permitting the whole to cool. As shown, apparatus for carrying out this method consists of a die 1 filled with molten thermoplastic material and having a nozzle 4 through which the molten material is extruded into the gap 5 between two pieces 6 and 7 of thermoplastic material to be welded together. The walls of the gap may serve as a guide for the nozzle and the outer surface of the die may be at a temperature above the softening-point of the thermoplastic material. |
