EXPANDED STARCHES AS ADDITIVES FOR PAPER MANUFACTURE

The invention relates to an additive which is used as sizing agent in the preparation of paper cellulose for moulding. It consists of a two-phase suspension of expanded starch having from 0.5 to 30 wt.% dry matter, expanded volume after boiling from 1.6 to 100 ml/g and soluble substances after boiling from 0.5 to 50 wt%. The composition is produced from starch suspension having relatively low concentration which is subjected to carefully controlled expansion conditions (temperature and pH), ranging depending the type of the used starch. The dry matter of the suspension can also range depending on the fact whether a batch or a periodic process is employed. 13 claims
