摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To heighten an effect of thermal double refraction compensation in a solid state laser element by irradiating only the solid state laser element with excitation light from the side thereof with the use of a semiconductor laser for excitation. SOLUTION: Solid state laser elements 101 and 102 are irradiated with excitation light emitted from an excitation light source 5, to make each of solid state laser elements 101 and 102 absorb the excitation light 11. Laser amplifying mediums are formed in these solid state laser elements 101 and 102, respectively, and spontaneous emission light is emitted from the excited atom. At this time the excitation light source 5 is placed only on a side surface of each of solid state laser elements 101 and 102 in a solid state laser element 1, so that only each of solid state laser element 101 and 102 is irradiated directly with excitation light and that a polarization rotary element 111 is not irradiated directly. As a result, an effect of thermal double refraction compensation is heightened.
