PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically conduct, with less risk, the cooling gas replacement work by controlling an automatic valve depending on the signal from a detector for detecting gas pressure and concentration. SOLUTION: When operation of an rotary electric machine 23 stops and a gas substitution start signal is input to a control panel 15, the hydrogen gas supply valve 1 closes and a bypass valve 2, a substitution control valve 5 and an air release valve 7 open to release the internal hydrogen gas to the open air. Here, the gas pressure is detected with a pressure detector 13 and when it becomes lower than the predetermined value, the carbon dioxide gas enters from a carbon dioxide gas unit 22 to push out the hydrogen gas to the open air. However, since the hydrogen concentration is always monitored with a gas concentration detector 16 and when it becomes lower than the predetermined value or less, substitution of hydrogen gas with the carbon dioxide gas is completed. Next, when a high pressure air is supplied from an air supply unit 14 to release the carbon dioxide gas to the open air but the carbon dioxide gas concentration is monitored with a gas concentration detector 16 and when it becomes sufficiently low, such release is completed. Thereby, substitution of hydrogen gas may be done automatically with less risk.
