Improvements in and relating to coated beads and laminated sandwich structures therefrom

Thin walled hollow heads are coated with a powdered metal and a thermosetting resin. The beads may be of silica gel, clay, aluminium oxide, sodium silicate, perlite, glass, ceramics or natural or synthetic resins, e.g. polystyrene, and may be in a proportion of 10 to 50%, preferably 15-50% by weight, of the resin. The metal may be aluminium, iron, zinc, tin, magnesium, copper, tungsten, lead, antimony, cadmium, bismuth, gold, silver or an alloy e.g. steel, bronze or brass and may be in a proportion of 3 to 50% by weight of the resin. The thermosetting resin may be a silicone resin, an expoxy resin, which may be compounded with a urea-, phenol-, or melamineformaldehyde resin, or may be esterified, a phenolaldehyde resin, a thermosetting polyester resin, or alkyd, a polyurethane, or a natural thermosetting resin, examples are given. The resin may be dissolved in a solvent, e.g. benzene toluene, gasoline, kerosine, methyl, ethyl, propyl, isopropyl or butyl alcohol, diethyl or diphenyl ether, methyl ethyl ketone or acetone, added to a mixture of the beads and powdered metal, and the solvent evaporated off. The resin may be dissolved in a solvent e.g. benzene toluene, gasoline, kerosine, methyl, ethyl, propyl, isopropyl or butyl alcohol, diethyl or diphenyl ether, methyl ethyl ketone or acetone, added to a mixture of the beads and powdered metal, and the solvent evaporated off. The resin may include a foaming ingredient.
