PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To confirm a signal type automatically in response to the signal type of a telephone line of each home and to simply revise the signal type. SOLUTION: A central management section 2 stores and manages operation information of an electric appliance 1 placed in a home and transmits the operation information to a monitor section 3 at the outside of the home through a telephone line 5 to monitor a state of living in this monitor system. In this case, the central management section 2 is provided with a pulse signal transmission circuit section (DP circuit section 27) and a tone signal transmission circuit section (MODEM 27) so as to be able to transmit the dial pulse or the push tone signal type. In the case that normal communication cannot be made by one signal type to the monitor section 3, the central management section 2 revises the signal type into the other signal type for next communication. At the time of terminating the communication normally, the central management section 2 confirms and maintains the signal type for the communication.
