PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate the open/close actions of a spring-up cover and to facilitate the maintenance of a magnetic head such as the cleaning by preparing an upper frame consisting of a fixed cover having an open/close mechanism and the spring-up cover and securing the gearing between the hook part of the fixed cover and the hook part of a movable hook member of the spring-up cover or canceling the said gearing to pen and close the spring-up cover. SOLUTION: An upper frame consists of a fixed cover 15 and a spring-up cover 16, and the main body of a magnetic card reader consists of the upper frame and a lower frame 14. The cover 15 is placed at the side of the frame 14 where a magnetic card is inserted, and the cover 15 and the frame 14 which are fixed together by a screw, etc., forms a card inserting port. Then the magnetic card reader is used, the hook part of the cover 15 gears to the hook part 18a of a movable hook member 18 and the cover 16 is kept closed. The member 18 is pressed by a compression spring 20 to secure the gearing of both hook parts and to lock the cover 16. When a lever 19 is lifted up, the cover 16 is opened.
