PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a floating head slider capable of reducing the change in floating amount caused by a movement in the radial direction of a disk as much as possible. SOLUTION: For this floating head slider 14, a large positive pressure, i.e., a floating force, is generated on an air bearing surface 31 when an air flow flowing from a step surface 33 through a front wall surface 34 during the rotation of a magnetic disk acts on the air bearing surface 31. Even when the direction of the air flow flowing into a slider main body is changed, no change occurs in the area of the front wall surface 34 against which the air flow collides. Thus, even when the direction for receiving the air flow is changed, a bouyancy generated in the air bearing surface 31 is not changed so greatly. Therefore, the change of a floating amount generated by a movement in the radial direction of a disk is greatly reduced.
