PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multi-layer film optical element formed by joining substrates comprising same material mutually on both faces of a multi-layer film. SOLUTION: This multi-layer film optical element, having a multi-layer film 21 formed by forming films on a substrate 11 from two kinds of laminating material having different light refractive indices, for making reflected light and transmitted light on each boundary face of the multi-layer film 21 interfere with each other, is formed by joining and retaining the front face and the rear face of the multi-layer film 21 between two substrates 11, 12 comprising the same material mutually.
