PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical recording apparatus accommodating an optical recording medium forming at the surface thereof an information of stepped structure (information of projection and recess structure) to perform recording and (or) reproducing of information with an evanescent optical beam using the heads for recording and (or) reproducing operation to identify the stepped structure to be detected in the optical recording medium to clearly detect the same structure, clearly and easily discriminate the reproduced information from the recording spot and the tracking information and detect with higher sensitivity these information pieces and an optical recording medium used in the same apparatus. SOLUTION: In an optical recording apparatus for recording and reproducing an information of the evanescent optical beam using a probe 1 in the heads for recording and reproducing the information by accommodating therein an optical recording medium 2 forming the information including a stepped structure 3 at the surface thereof, interval W between the probe 1 and optical recording medium 2 is set almost equal to the height difference D in the stepped structure 3 to be detected in the optical recording medium 2 at the time of recording and reproducing operation. |
