PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color cathode-ray tube exhibiting little variations in the thickness and quality of a heat absorbing film on a conductive reflection film and exhibiting little deterioration of color purity, and provide a manufacturing method thereof. SOLUTION: A heat absorbing film 14 made of an oxide is formed on a conductive reflection film 13 by applying thereon and backing a sol containing a colloidal material oxidized. It is not necessary to vary operating conditions of a vacuum vapor deposition device for forming a conductive reflection film 13 and of an applying/baking device for forming a heat absorbing film 14, having little variations in the thickness and quality can be formed on a conductive reflection film 13, and reflection and radiation of heat from a conductive reflection film 13 to a color selecting electrode can be effectively suppressed.
