851,094. Storing liquefied gases. DIMENTBERG, M. March 24, 1959, No. 10147/59. Class 8(2). Underground storage of light hydrocarbon gases e.g. natural gas is effected by liquefying the gas in a known apparatus 2 forcing the liquid by a pump 16 through a valved duct 3 into a cavern 1 thereby freezing the interstitial water in the cavern walls thus rendering them impermeable, and using inflowing ambient heat to revaporize the liquid which is withdrawn by a pump 21 up a duct 4 leading to an outlet service duct. Excess vapour pressure is relieved through valves 11, 12 back to the refrigerator 2. Liquefied gas may also be pumped through a line 19 and flashed at a valve 20 into the cavern thus effecting a quicker reduction in temperature of the stored liquid. |
