LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY ELEMENT AND ITS PRODUCTION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the luminance of a liquid crystal display element by widening its effective liquid crystal drive area to the maximum possible extent and to eliminate the need for black matrices and to simplify the production process by eliminating the offset in bonding of color filters. SOLUTION: This liquid crystal display element is provided with thin-film transistors(TFTs) each consisting of a gate electrode 2, a gate insulating film 3, a semiconductor layer 4, an ohomic contact layer 6 and source and drain electrodes 7 and 8 on an insulating substrate 1 and is provided with a planarization insulating film 9 covering the surface of the TFTs and pixel electrodes 10 connected to the TFTs through contact holes disposed on the planarization insulating film 9 thereon. The surfaces of the pixel electrodes 10 are anodically oxidized to constitute the color filters 11. A transparent insulating substrate 12 having common electrodes 14 at the pixel electrodes 10 with such color filters 11 is disposed to face the substrate described above and liquid crystals 13 are filled into the spacing therebetween.
