PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printing system capable of easily changing and updating a printer program, with which various parts connected to a printer can be easily dealt with and the control of devices is facilitated as well. SOLUTION: A parts check program in a host computer 1 requests parts information to a printer 2. In response to that request, a parts information transmission program in the printer 2 transmits the information of parts connected to the printer 2 at present to the host computer 1. Then, the parts check program in the host computer 1 downloads a parts driver for operating the parts connected to the printer 2 to the printer 2. The downloaded parts driver program is installed in the printer 2 and activated by the boot program of the parts driver in the printer 2.
