The invention relates to a process for short-duty electrochemical formation of lead-sulphuric acid industrial accumulator plates by an intermittent supply of the formation current to the plates immersed in a bath solution with a density of 1.05 g/cm3, the formation duty being divided in "charge - stop" cycles, one cycle comprising a charging step (tj) with optimal intensity current (I optim) and a stop step with zero current, the cycle duration being of 30 s, the intensity of the current on the positive plate (I optim) being of 40.5 A/kg of active mass, and the amount of energy used for the complete formation of the plates being of 566 Ah/kg of active mass.
