PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video signal processor and a picture display device capable of preventing harmful effects from being generated accompanying gradation corrections. SOLUTION: When a plasma DMD is used as a display device, the input amplitude of the video signal inputted to an input terminal 10 is detected in an amplitude detecting circuit 20. When this detected level is in a low area, a digital gradation correction signal from a dither pattern generating circuit 18 is outputted to an adder circuit 24 by turning a switching circuit 22 ON and a digitized video signal and the digital gradation correction signal are added in this adder circuit 24 and a video signal whose gradation is corrected is outputted from a video signal output terminal 26. On the other hand, when the input level of the video signal is in a high area, the video signal from the input terminal 10 is outputted to the terminal 26 as it is by turning the switching circuit 22 OFF.
