These pharmaceutical compositions comprise the compounds of the formula I, where R1 and R2 are H, acyl or alkyl and the composition is at least 95% free of the corresponding b-D-enantiomer. Also included are pharmaceutical compositions comprising a compound of the formula II where R is H, F, Cl, CH3, CHCH2,CCH, CN, Br or NO2 and R1 and R2 each are H, alkyl, acyl, monophosphate, diphosphate, or triphosphate; or pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof.
