PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the generation of an artifact near a large edge part by generating an improved digital image while using a tone scale and a control signal applied to the respective color channels of a digital color image. SOLUTION: The control signal generated by an avoidance signal generator is inputted to a pedestal splitter 50, a tone scale function is applied to the pedestal signal of that pedestal splitter 50 while using a tone scale applicator 60, and picture quality is improved by changing image characteristics. Besides, the output of a texture signal from the pedestal splitter 50 is amplified by a texture corrector 70 and a scalar constant is set to 1.0. Then, these corrected texture signal and corrected pedestal signal are added by an adder 80 and a converted digital color channel is formed. |
