PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily know the recorded content in record information sections by showing a list of set picture codes in a record reservation information when booking the recording and inputting program category information. SOLUTION: About each recording booking and each picture recording program category picture codes are set to support the identification of their contents, a plurality of kinds of category picture codes are stored in a memory 18 and set (attached) to each recording program. In booking, a picture code suited to the program among the picture codes in a program category information memory 17 is set to book the recording. Using this identifying means, recording characteristics suited to the program are set by recording characteristics switch circuit 49. For recording e.g. a movie program, a picture code corresponding to the movie is set to send information indicating the recording of the movie program to the recording characteristic switch circuit 49, thereby recording with the movie recording characteristics set to frequency characteristics suited for the movie easy to see and with characteristics set to enhance the high and low frequency bands of voice.
