PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a camera having a focus area which can be set without being restricted by preset set conditions by correlating the set focus area to one part of a video signal, adjusting the focus of an image and improving resolution. SOLUTION: A user can set the focusing area by using a setting device 19. This setting includes the positioning of the focusing area at any place in visual field and the adjustment of the size and/or shape of the focus area through arbitrary selection. An automatic focus circuit 18 receives a setting signal 4 from the device 19 and receives the video signal from an optical system 9. The circuit 18 gates the video signal, so that only the part of the video signal generated from an area on an image detection surface corresponding to the focusing area is made to pass by using set information by the setting signal 4. When the video signal is discriminated and extracted, an adjusting signal 2 is supplied to an adjustable optical system 11, the focus of the image is adjusted, and the resolution of the focusing area is improved. |
