PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control method of communication equipment by which the other terminal is informed of the change of a telephone number by updating the telephone number before the change which is registered in a telephone book function to the telephone number after the change when the telephone number before the change and the telephone number after the change are received from an opposite terminal when an incoming call is detected. SOLUTION: CPU 1 controls the operation of every part. A network controller 8 is provided with an automatic calling/receiving function for connecting the telephone terminal to a public network PSTN and is provided with the generation function and the detection function of a push key signal. When its own telephone number is changed, the telephone terminal sequentially gives the notice of the old telephone number and the new telephone number to the destinations of telephone numbers registered in a telephone book table. Further when old telephone number and a new telephone number are notified from any telephone terminal, an inquiry is made as to whether the number should be updated to a user. The old telephone number is rewritten into the new telephone number and the content of the telephone book table is updated.
