A non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agent (NSAID) is used in the manufacture of a medicament for retarding or preventing the transformation of a colonic adenoma to colonic adenocarcinoma in a patient with a history of familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP) wherein the amount of the NSAID is effective to inhibit the enzyme prostaglandin G/H synthase-2 (PGHS-2) in the adenoma.
