PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a focus servo from being deviated while suppressing power consumption and heat generation by varying the gain of the focus servo to decrease below a value at the time of recording/reproduction depending on the movement of an optical head when it is moved to a target position on an optical disc. SOLUTION: Gain of a focus servo at the time of moving an optical head to a target position on an optical disc is set lower than a value at the time of reproduction for a predetermined time interval, preferably between start and end of movement of the optical head or between acceleration and deceleration thereof. Gain of the focus servo during acceleration of the optical head is preferably set higher than that between acceleration and deceleration thereof.
