DISCHARGE LAMP DRIVE CIRCUIT AND DISCHARGE LAMP DRIVE METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a high-efficiency discharge lamp drive circuit having a small number of components. SOLUTION: This discharge lamp drive circuit has a series quasi-resonance circuit 15 connected to between an AC power source 12 and a discharge lamp 10. A lighting circuit 17 for starting the drive of the discharge lamp 10 is also connected in the circuit. Because switching of the discharge lamp 10 keeps the series quasi-resonance circuit 15 in an oscillating state, the series quasi- resonance circuit 15 keeps the discharge lamp 10 in a driving state after the lighting of the discharge lamp 10 by the lighting circuit 17. High-efficiency power shifting between an inductive component and a capacitive component of the circuit reduces a loss and increases a power factor.
