PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader whose reading precision of image is satisfactory by a means different from conventional technology. SOLUTION: A panel 11 is constituted by sandwiching plural light reception elements which are two-dimensionally arranged by a pair of translucent substrates 21 and 22. A slope 22a is formed at the end part of the translucent substrate 22 and a light source 12 is arranged facing the slop 22a. Light transmitted by reflection from the surface of the translucent substrates 21 and 22 is radiated on an object touching the surface of the panel 11 and return light from the object is received by the light reception elements 23. Thus, the image of the object is read. Consequently, the direction of light transmitting the panel 11 can be limited and the reading precision of the image can be improved.
