An expansion-compression engine is disclosed for performing the function of a combustion engine, compressor, supercharger or pump. The engine consists of at least one unit comprising a casing (5) in the shape of a torus sector, spanning some 60 DEG , closed by end covers (15, 15') at both ends of the torus sector inside which reciprocates a piston (1) firmly connected to a piston shaft (3). The piston shaft (3) is strongly attached to an arm (11) that is coupled to a crank (14) of a rotating crankshaft (13) by a connecting rod (12) pivotally connected at its extremities to the outer end of the arm (11) and to the crank (14). The end covers (15, 15') comprise valves (6) necessary for operation of the engine as a compressor, supercharger or pump. When implemented as a combustion engine, the end covers also feature fuel supply and ignition elements.
