PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent liquid from bubbling, improve reliability for cooling capacity, and at the same time miniaturize and make compact a device and reduce its costs by equipping a refrigerating device with a compressor, a condenser, a pressure-reducing mechanism, and a cross-fin-type evaporator and accommodating the cross-fin-type evaporator in a liquid tank. SOLUTION: When liquid to be cooled being heated by a machine tool flows into an upper chamber A of a cross-fin-type evaporator 27 from a liquid inflow port 31, liquid 30 in the chamber A is cooled by the cross-fin-type evaporator 27 and is lowered since its specific gravity is decreased, flows down while being cooled among cross fins 27a, 27a,... along upper/lower directions, and flows into a chamber B at the lower portion of the evaporator 27 as shown by an arrow X. The cold liquid 30 in the chamber B is sucked through a suction strainer 33 by a pump 34 and is supplied to the machine tool through piping 35. In this manner, by accommodating the cross-fin-type evaporator 27 in the liquid tank, the liquid 30 can be effectively cooled without using any stirrer and suppressing bubbling.
