BENDING MACHINE FOR FLAT MATERIAL

The invention relates to a bending machine for flat material, comprising a machine frame having lower and upper clamping tools which are mounted on the machine frame and by means of which the flat material can be fixed in a clamping plane, and a device for displacing a bending tool by means of which a bending tool support having a bending tool for bending the flat material can be displaced about a bending edge in relation to the clamping plane into a plurality of bending positions. The aim of the invention is to improve said bending machine in such a way that it has a compact structure and allows for the movements of the bending tool to be carried out with technically simple means. To this end the machine frame is laterally open on at least one of its transverse sides so as to permit the introduction of flat material in the longitudinal direction of the bending edge and between the upper and lower cheek; the bending tool can be displaced at right angles to the clamping plane such that it passes through the different bending positions; and the bending tool support remains exclusively on that side of the clamping plane on which an initial bending position of the bending tool is situated.
