A load cell overload protection device includes a bottom plate (1) that has two lower stop blocks (5A, 5B) protruding upwardly therefrom, and a top plat e (2) that has an upper stop block (6A) protruding downwardly therefrom into a space between the two upper stop blocks (5A, 5B) with a block free play clearance therebetween. A restraining pin (8) is arranged to extend through aligned pin receiving holes (7A, 7B) in all of the stop blocks. A load cell (9) is secured in position between the top and bottom plates. At least one o f the holes has a diameter larger than the pin (8) to allow free play in the normal operational range of load cell (9) while at least one of the holes provides a tight frictional fit.
