The arrangement has at least two immersion tubes (9,10) with open tube mouths immersed to different depths in the electrolyte (4) and able to be filled with gas to associated gas depths, whereby the tubes have a fixed gas depth difference w.r.t each other, and at least one pressure sensor (16) for determining the pressure difference in the immersion tubes. Electrodes (11,19) in the tubes are connected to a voltage source to generate gas to fill the tubes to the associated depths on contact with the electrolyte.
