The datagrams are transferred over optical wavelength division multiplex networks (WDM-N) between different access routers. The network contains several cross connectors for the connection between different access routers. The datagrams are transferred according to the rules of a first transfer system, synchronous digital hierarchy (SDH), and are added to data link transport module, datalink transport module (DLT), of another transport system (DL). For connection between the access routers (SDH-R1, DL-R1) of the first transfer system (SDH) and the data link access routers (DL-R1,DL-R2) a data link converter (DLC) is activated. The datalink converter separates the Internet datagram (IPD) from each transport module (SDH-N, DLT) and adds it to the outgoing transport module (DLT, SDH-N).
