Mask pattern for the thinning procedure is created with differing thinning rates according to the density of an original image. AND operation is carried out on image data of original image with mask pattern according to density of image data. Ink density is decreased by thinning out of points of raster data. Mask pattern for the thinning procedure is created with differing thinning rates according to the density of an original image. AND operation is carried out on image data of original image with mask pattern according to density of image data. Thinning pattern is created according to 100 per cent density of original image and thinning rate is altered by a bit with value 0 of thinning pattern being altered to value 1, depending on density of original image. If the density of original image is smaller than 50 per cent, no thinning is carried out.
