The bicycle has a shaft (1), pedals (2), pref. a planetary transmission (3), all enclosed by a hub sleeve (5), and a brake unit (4). Externally adjustable control bodies (14,15) are located between two of these relatively turnable components, which act esp. on ratchets (12) of the free-wheel hubs (6,7). The control bodies turn relative to the ratchets when the multi-speed hub is operated from outside. They have contours, which move below or above the ratchets in certain turning positions, and with further turning of the bodies, move the ratchets in and/or out independent of the load at the time when the control movement started.
