摘要 A radiation image unit in which high-density photosensitive elements constituting a leading-edge technology for a high-energy experiment and optical wavelength conversion fibers are combined and which is high in detection efficiency and position resolution and has, as needed, a sufficiently large photosensitive area, wherein a plurality of parallel-arranged layers of wavelength conversion fibers are optically attached to a planar scintillator provided with a characteristic of localizing a scintillation light by radiation two-dimensionally so that the layers are parallel to a plane of incidence of scintillator radiation and fibers in different layers cross each other at a constant angle, and the scintillation light by radiation is converted into a secondary light in the optical wavelength conversion fibers and transmitted to photosensitive elements corresponding in position to individual fibers to thereby detect positions of incidence of individual radiations by the synchronous measurement of signals produced by photosensitive elements belonging to at least two fiber layers.
