The invention relates to a bending machine for flat materials, comprising a machine frame, a lower and an upper cheek mounted on the machine frame by means of which the flat material can be fixed, and a device for displacing a bending tool by means of which a bending tool can be displaced. The aim of the invention is to improve said bending machine in such a way that the movements of the bending tool can be carried out with technically simple means and in a precise manner. To this end the bending tool has a protruding bending part with a curved pressure application surface for exerting pressure to one side of the flat material and the bending tool can be displaced by the bending tool displacement device between an initial bending position and a final bending position along a trajectory around the respective bending edge. Said edge is set in a defined manner in such a way that the curved pressure application surface and the flat material side subjected to a pressure move in relation to each other such that they execute a substantially non-sliding rolling motion.
