A compound formula (1) and salts thereof, wherein: m is 1, 2, or 3; X is H or SO3H; R<1> and R<2> are each independently selected from optionally substituted alkyl and optionally substituted alkoxy; and R<4> and R<5> are each independently H, optionally substituted alkyl or optionally substituted aryl; provided that: (i) at least one of R<1> and R<2> carries and -OH group; and (ii) when X is H at least one of R<1> and R<2> is optionally substituted alkyl. The compounds are useful as dyes for ink jet printing inks.
