An automobile has seats, the backs of which are adjustable for rake. The adjustment is effected by a gear mechanism which consists of a ring gear (7) with extension levers engaging three or four pinions (8) acting as planet wheels. One pinion (9) is located at the center, acting as a sun wheel, and the three or four others are located between the center pinion and the ring gear. Adjustment is effected by a hand wheel (14) connected to the center pinion.
