The method involves transmitting the phone number of at least one calling subscriber of a telecommunication network in case its preceding connection attempt (V1,..., V4) to a called subscriber of the telecommunication network failed, and all input channels (V0) to the called subscriber are busy. The phone number (R1,..., R4) of the calling subscriber is stored temporarily in form of a callback number list (RL) in at least one of the digital exchanges (VST) involved in the connection attempt. The at least one temporarily stored phone number is transmitted to a subscriber terminal (B-T1n) of the called subscriber, if at least one input channel to the called subscriber has become free. The subscriber terminal of the called subscriber is connected, if necessary, over a private branch exchange system at the telecommunication network.
