The method involves applying material length sections (1R,2R,1L,2L) in succession or delivering them together so that sections extracted from different storage rollers and received by extraction rollers (6,7) pass on opposite sides of the central plane of the roller gap. The sections are arranged symmetrically w.r.t. the roller gap. An Independent claim is also included for a changeover arrangement for applying material from at least two rollers.
