SOCK TURNING DEVICE

In a sock turning method and device, a sock is received and guided by a rod (2, 4) until it surrounds a set of articulated jaws (5, 6, 7). This set of articulated jaws is then spread apart to squeeze the open end of the sock between the jaws and the inner wall of a tube coaxial with the rod and surrounding the set of jaws. A sleeve mounted coaxial with the rod on the same side of the set of articulated jaws is moved axially through the opening formed between the spread apart jaws until the sleeve reaches the end of a sleeve axial stroke. Since the open end of the sock is squeezed between the spread apart jaws and the inner wall of the tube, axial movement of the sleeve causes partial turning of the sock. When the sleeve has reached the end of its course, a coaxial bushing having an inner gripping surface and mounted on the side of the set of articulated jaws opposite to the rod and sleeve is moved axially in the direction of the sleeve. Upon axial movement of the bushing, the inner gripping surface of the bushing grips the sock to slide this sock on the outer face of the sleeve and complete turning of the sock. After turning of the sock is completed, the sleeve, the bushing and the articulated jaws are returned back to their initial position. Finally, the sock is released and aspirated through a vacuum tube.
