摘要 In order to improve the resistance of gas turbine engine blade mountings to stress related fatigue failures, a surface 11 of the root of the blade 3, which contacts the surface 13 of a slot in a blade disc 5 in which the root is located, may be crowned 100. Alternatively the surface 13, of the disc, or both the surfaces of the blade and disc may be crowned. The crown may be defined by a variable height 152, in relation to a plane 150 which may be defined by orthogonal axes x,y. The height may vary along both axes. A method of manufacturing the root and slot includes the steps of performing an in-plane stress analysis and an out-of plane stress analysis, determining the crown profile to achieve desired contact conditions at maximum load, and machining the root and slot surfaces to produce the crown profile.
