<p>A method for manufacturing a core plug (12) from a core blank (10) having an outer rim (46), a top surface (42) and a bottom surface (44). The method comprises positioning the core blank (10) into a stamping apparatus (16,22). Subsequently, a recess (50) is stamped into the outer rim (46) of the bottom surface (44) of the core blank (10). Next, the bottom surface (44) of the core blank (10) is positioned in a blank accepting region (26) of a second die member (18) of a core die formation apparatus (16). The core blank (10) is then propelled through an opening (28) extending through the second die member (18), and, the outer rim (46) is deformed inward and upward, thus forming the core plug (12). The deformation does not affect the recessed region (50) of the resulting core plug (12). The invention additionally comprises a core plug (12) manufactured by the foregoing method and a core die formation apparatus (16) used in conjunction with the method. <IMAGE></p> |
