PURPOSE: An arrangement for determining the state is provided to determine the state of a high-pressure gas discharge lamp on switching-on, particularly temperature. CONSTITUTION: An arrangement for determining the state of a high-pressure gas discharge lamp on switching-on includes a control device either impresses a specific current into the lamp and measures the resultant voltage drop, or applies a specific voltage to the lamp and measures the resultant flowing lamp current and, as a function of the result, triggers the light according to the established lamp state.
