PURPOSE: An engine and a method of operation for an engine is provided which works according to the principle of pulsating combustion. CONSTITUTION: An engine working according to the method of pulsating combustion comprises a pressure resistant housing (10) with a combustion chamber (12) located therein, an intake device (14) for fuel and combustion air, an exhaust device (22) connected to the combustion chamber (12) for exhaust gases arising from combustion. According to the invention a moveable piston (20) is placed in a cylinder (18) connected to the combustion chamber (12) and a spring resistance acts upon the piston (20) on the side opposite to the combustion chamber (12). This enables effective energy transmission of pressure waves arising from pulsating combustion to a mechanical moving element.
