PURPOSE: An apparatus for vertical converting an image format and a digital receiver system thereof are provided to control filters more generally and to convert formats in variable types. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for vertical converting an image format includes a memory(502), a filter(507), a filter coefficient table(504), a switch(505), and a controller(500). The memory(502) includes a plurality of line memories. The filter(507) multiplies image data at each line memory and the coefficient input at each image data position, and adds all results. The filter coefficient table(504) pre-calculates filter coefficients varying according to format conversion ratios and stores the calculated filter coefficients. The switch(505) moves the position of the filter coefficients to the center position of the input image data. The controller(500) controls the data storage of line memory and the switching of the switch.
