PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a butyl rubber compound having improved aging characteristics by making the butyl rubber contain a specified polycyclic phenol/ formaldehyde resin and a halogen-containing compound and an uncured butyl rubber in a specified ratio. SOLUTION: The butyl rubber compound is obtained by compounding 95 pts.wt. uncured butyl rubber having a Mooney viscosity of 25-70, desirably, 30-63 and an isoprene content of 0.5-10 mol% with 9.5-3 pts.wt., desirably, 8-4 pts.wt. polycyclic phenol/formaldehyde resin having dimethylene ether bridges and methylene bridges in a molar ratio of the former to the latter of 2.5/1 or below, desirably, 1.7/1 or below, 1-10 pts.wt., desirably, 4-6 pts.wt. halogen- containing compound, and, optionally, 40-80 pts.wt. filler. This compound is cured by vulcanization by heating at a temp. of 125-250 deg.C, desirably, 150-200 deg.C for 5 min to 24 hr.
