PRODUCTION OF POLYMER GEL COMPOSITE MATERIAL

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for producing a polymer gel composite material consisting of a hydrogen-bond polymer and a functional polymer and having high developing efficiency of the function and excellent controllability of the function in high production efficiency. SOLUTION: An aqueous solution of a polyvinyl alcohol is mixed with an aqueous suspension of powdery polyacrylic acid and the mixture is stirred. The uniformity of the mixed liquid is judged from the transmission or reflection of light taking advantage of the opaque nature of the suspension. The homogenized mixture is gelatinized by freezing and thawing to obtain a pH-responsive polymer gel composite material. The obtained polymer gel composite material changes its volume nearly proportional to the content of polyacrylic acid by the change of its pH.
