PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an electron emitting element using a metal composition not causing metal deposition with the passage of time and therefore being excellent in stability. SOLUTION: When this method for producing a surface conduction-type electron emitting element comprises the formation of an electron emitting part through (A) partially imparting a metal composition including an electron emitting material to substrate and (B) heating and baking of the substrate imparted with the metal composition, the metal composition is the one for producing an electron emitting element, being a liquid including water as a main ingredient, monodentate ligand metal complex and amino acid.
