PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inspecting method and device capable of quantitatively measuring and evaluating a quality of assembly of a differential gear. SOLUTION: In a method of inspecting a quality of assembly of a differential gear with a pair of side gears D3, a pair of pinion gears and a pinion mate haft D5 assembled in a differential case D1, wedge-shaped probes 17 are inserted between the side gear D3 and the pinion mate shaft D5, to measure dimension S of a clearance, with this dimension serving as an evaluation value of the clearance.
